Soundies were a popular form
Of entertainment in the early
To mid 1940’s.They provided a
picture on a screen similar in
Size to a large (27 inch) TV. They
Were however not an analog or
TV image, but a rear projected
16MM motion picture image.
They were shown on a screen which
Was located on a console and was
known as a Panoram.(See at Right)
They provided just about every type
Of musical entertaiment possible.
Most of the films that were shown
Were produced by The Soundies
Corporation of America. They
Produced over 1800 individual
Soundies. These little film clips
were shown in bars, restaurants,
bus stations,soda fountains,
military bases and anywhere this
type of entertainment was desired.
